WARRIORS' SEASON COMES TO CONCLUSION AT LOURDES
SYLVANIA, Ohio - The Warriors (17-12) saw their season come to a tough end at third-seeded Lourdes (22-5) in the first round of the WHAC Tournament on Thursday night, 84-64. After a strong start, Rochester lost control of the ball a few too many times, allowing the Gray Wolves to extend their lead to an unreachable margin.
Four Warriors - James Fisher, Brandon Michrina, Gunner Walters, and Brett White - scored in double figures during the contest, with Fisher leading at 13 points, five rebounds, and two steals. The Gray Wolves were led by forward Jackie Harris and guard Shaunn Monroe who combined for 47 points.
THE RUNDOWN
FIRST HALF
- The teams pulled no punches to start the half, with physical play on both ends of the floor. Fisher got going in the paint early with a layup and dunk shortly after. Brett White began an excellent first half, starting with a ridiculous reverse layup plus the foul. Not finished yet, White hit a three and a contested mid-range pullup to keep Rochester going
- After the Gray Wolves built a small lead, Walters nailed a pull-up three. Another small run from Lourdes was answered by a three from Michrina, but the Gray Wolves responded with a 10-0 run to end the first half up 39-28
SECOND HALF
- Fisher picked back up with multiple layups thanks to pick-and-roll actions by the Warriors, but the Gray Wolves embarked on a 13-1 run to get the lead over 20 points. However, a series of swished jumpers by Walters and Michrina got the Warriors back within 13. Bralin Toney hit two free throws following the media timeout to keep the Warrior offense alive
- A series of turnovers by the Warriors enabled Lourdes to get back up to 21 behind multiple transition baskets. From there, the Gray Wolves took over as Rochester struggled to hit jumpers down the stretch, allowing the hosts to take a commanding 27-point lead. Toney, Zane Draper, and Cam Sutton knocked down deep threes to keep the fight going for the Warriors, but it wouldn't be enough as the buzzer sounded
STAT OF THE GAME
The Warriors struggled on the glass, as Rochester was out-rebounded 45-31.
