Women's Basketball knocks down Golden Eagles to close out the home 2025 schedule
(Rochester Hills, MI) - The Rochester Christian women's basketball team closed out its 2025 home schedule on Saturday afternoon with a conference matchup against the Cornerstone Golden Eagles. RCU outscored the Golden Eagles in three of the four quarters en route to their 79-62 win. The Warriors now move to 6-4 on the year and 6-1 in conference play.
FIRST HALF
Cornerstone grabbed the first bucket of the game on its first possession before Ashley Loon took the lead with her first three-pointer. CU was able to respond with five straight points before Kendal Zeiter and Samone Andrews were able to retake the lead. The two teams would continue to trade baskets following the media timeout as CU led 14-13.
Amal Younes jump-started the RCU offense in the second quarter with a three to start a 12-0 run, with Tambre Williams and Emily Lockey getting in on the scoring. The Golden Eagles would put up a 7-2 run to get to the media timeout, making it a five-point game. Samone Andrews and Shahd Bakkar closed out the scoring in the half for the Warriors.
SECOND HALF
Mylah Aalse opened the first possession of the second half with a three-point bucket. Following a pair of CU buckets, Kendal Zeiter added two scores to keep the lead at nine points. Jacey Somers had a big "and-1" bucket going into the media timeout. Samone Andrews added recorded her own "and-1" score till Somers scored a pair of buckets before the end of the quarter, including a layup with two seconds remaining.
The two teams would start the fourth going scoreless for the first 1:36 before CU scored, and Amal Younes grabbed a bucket. Mylah Aalse put the Warriors up by 21 with her second three of the game. Samone Andrews took over the scoring to close out the game with a couple of buckets as RCU came away with the 17-point win.
TOP PERFORMERS
Samone Andrews had her highest scoring output of the season, leading both teams, putting up 25 points, with Kendal Zeiter and Amal Younes also scoring in double figures with 14 and 11, respectively. Timbre Williams led RCU with a season-high six assists.
Leading the rebounding effort for RCU was Kendal Zeiter with a game-high 15 rebounds (11 defensively), while Tambre Williams was second with seven. Amal Younes recorded a trio of steals, while Zeiter led the team with two blocks.
UP NEXT
RCU will be back in action when they head to the Daytona Beach Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida, for a pair of games against #16 Carroll (MT) and Kansas Wesleyan. The Warriors will take on Carroll on Wednesday, December 17, at 1 PM, before playing Kansas Wesleyan on Thursday, December 18, at 11 AM.
