WARRIOR ATHLETICS APPOINTS REBEKAH SEWELL TO LEAD WOMEN'S LACROSSE PROGRAM

Rochester University Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Rebekah Sewell as head coach of the women's lacrosse program. Sewell, a Rochester University alumni, was the first-ever signee for the Warrior program, finishing her career in the 2023 season.

"As a former player, I truly never thought I'd have the opportunity to be the head coach of this program," Sewell said. "What excites me the most is that I get to say I've been here from day one. I'm excited to give girls their first college team experience, bring girls into the program, and share the love I've grown for it. I look forward to bringing a new sense of excitement and positivity to the team. I want to prove to ourselves that we are a hardworking, devoted, and resilient team."

Sewell played all over the field for the Warriors and was a multi-year captain in her time as a player. This will be Sewell's first collegiate head coaching role.

"I came into this program excited for everything to come of it as a freshman, and that's what I'm doing as head coach now," Sewell said. "My mentality for this season is an exciting one. I'm excited that I get to help build this team up, watch players grow in their skills, and set new records for this team. These girls are giving me a wonderful first-time coaching experience, and I'm aiming to showcase the hard work and positive attitudes I get to see every day at practice and on the field."

Warrior Athletic Director Clayton Bissett had this to say about Sewell's hiring:

"We are thrilled to be able to bring Coach Sewell on board. Not only was she on our inaugural women's lacrosse team, she was the first athlete signed by our women's lacrosse program. After being a student-athlete here, she knows exactly what our culture is. She brings lots of enthusiasm to the table and is a hard worker. We are excited for her to be leading this program."
