Bio

Dr. Reggies Wenyika has appointed Dr. Jaime Cuellar as the next Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Strategic Enrollment. Dr. Cuellar begins this role in April 2026.

Dr. Cuellar brings extensive experience in athletics and higher education. A former NAIA collegiate athlete, he completed his final two seasons at Southwestern Christian University. He has nine total years of experience working in various professional roles within the National Basketball Association (NBA) with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets.

He later returned to Southwestern Christian University, where he served as assistant women's basketball coach under Hall of Fame coach Mark Arthur, head men's and women's golf coach, and full-time faculty member. Most recently, at Kansas Christian College (KCC), Dr. Cuellar held several leadership positions, including head men's basketball coach, director of athletics, and vice president for student affairs.

During his four years at KCC, Dr. Cuellar played a pivotal role in driving enrollment growth and elevating the college's athletic profile. In 2022, he helped bring the NCCAA Baseball and Softball World Series to Kansas City. As head men's basketball coach, he led his teams to two national championships, two regional championships, and a fifth-place national finish at the national tournament in 2024. He was also named Central Region Coach of the Year in 2024.

Beyond athletic success, Dr. Cuellar launched meaningful campus initiatives that continue to impact students today. He established the "Reading Buddies" program, which partners college students with local elementary students for bi-weekly reading sessions. He also introduced an annual all-school retreat focused on community building, spiritual growth, and fellowship. Both initiatives remain active and continue to benefit students at Kansas Christian College and Overland Christian Schools.
