LATE GOAL FROM STOJANOVIC, SAVES FROM CARLSON FORCE TIE AGAINST GOSHEN

GOSHEN, IN - Men's soccer (2-1-1) forced a late draw in a matchup against Goshen (1-6-1) on Wednesday night. The Warriors put themselves at a disadvantage throughout the match, giving up an own goal and having two players sent off during the game. Despite that, the team remained composed and saw a late goal save the game.

The first half was quiet for both teams, with only a few shots being recorded between the two. Senior Ellis Jones had a close shot opportunity that went left, which marked the sole time Rochester had much of a chance at goal. However, the same could be said for the Maple Leafs, with the Warrior defense staying strong.

Things took off in the second half, with both teams finding opportunities at goal. Junior Brad Carlson recorded his first save (more on him later), in the 49th minute, and Rochester blocked another shot a few minutes later. In the 54th minute, a miscue from the Warriors supplied the Maple Leafs with an own goal for the lead.

Sophomore Gadiel Herrera would log a shot on goal in the 59th minute, and Carlson saved another shot two minutes later to keep the game within reach. Carlson made another big save off a header attempt from a Goshen player in the 64th minute to continue his big half.

Things began to become worrisome for Rochester, with two players being sent off in the 76th minute which put the Warriors at a disadvantage with time running out. However, sophomore Ivan Stojanovic would score on a heroic effort by passing two Goshen defenders to tie the game in the 80th minute.

To cap off his night, Carlson made another great save in the 87th minute to keep the game at a draw, allowing the Warriors to prevent another loss from being added to the column.

Rochester will wrap up non-conference play when they travel to (RV) Indiana Wesleyan on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
